Meet #KaraBrussen Winner of The #wedblog2015 Competition #WED2015 @UNEP

Kenya - May 9th, 2015 - WED Blog Competition Winner – Kara Brussen. UNEP is pleased to announce Kara Brussen as the winner of the World Environment Day (WED) Blog Competition, and the WED 2015 official blogger at the Milan Expo! The competition received entries from all continents, and Kara’s contribution stood out for her willingness to practice her beliefs towards sustainable every day behavior.

For WED this year we are asking people to re-think their consumption habits and find more sustainable ways of living that are good for them and the planet. In her blog, Kara challenges herself to use a bicycle as transportation to reduce CO2 emissions that harm our environment. Similarly, competition runner-up Jane Dune discovers a way to brush off those pesky little plastic tubes that carry the toothpaste we use daily. In the US alone, 400 million toothpaste tubes pile up in landfills every year. After days of online research, Jane found a toothpaste product that comes in recyclable packaging and that became her actionable ‘one less thing’.

You will be hearing much more from Kara in and around World Environment Day, as she will travel to Italy in her capacity as UNEP’s official blogger at the Milan Expo, from where she will report live on WED celebrations and the Expo on her blog and social media.

Kara is an environmental engineer and sustainability consultant, who works with clients, such as local governments, to develop strategies related to sustainability in her home of Melbourne, Australia.

What is the one less thing you pledge to do without in order to restore our planet’s natural regenerative ability?
