Environment: Ghana Poor Sanitation Kills Thousands of Minors
Ghana – Thursday 23rd, 2015 - More than 7 500 Ghanaian children die as a result of unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation every year, it has emerged.
The toll is the highest in the continent and seventh-worst in the world.
UNICEF’s official in charge of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Ghana, David Duncan, confirmed the latest developments.
He urged Ghanaians to invest heavily in the water and sanitation in order to improve the health of its people.
The report has revealed that only one in eight Ghanaians regularly wash their hands when having food, a development that has worsened the diarrhea and cholera outbreaks.
More report also noted that more than 5 million Ghanaian people do not have access to toilet facilities.
Meanwhile, among the other worst-performing African nations in the provision of sanitation and clean water include South Sudan, Niger, Chad, Madagascar, Togo, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia and Guinea.
